Men and women are equally responsible for the birth of a new life. But women seem to be bearing the brunt most of the time, bearing most of the responsibilities, compromising on their health to meet the requirements of their new born. And women are the ones undergoing major physiological, emotional changes and many new situations suddenly seem to have fallen into their lap. More than they can take.
The theme of the World Population Day this year, is chosen as ‘Men as Partners’ on 11th July, 2007 by the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund).

The objectives are to
 reduce maternal deaths by 75 percent by 2015
 recognize men’s influence on reproductive health options and decisions
 encourage men and women to deal jointly with contraception issues, emergency plans for labor, delivery
 encourage voluntary HIV testing and counseling
 highlight some issues like gender-based violence , female genital mutilation
 encourage post abortion counseling
